Novi's Natalie Altayeb '26 appointed recent graduate trustee at Albion College

Albion, MI (07/01/2026) — Natalie Altayeb, a member of Albion College's Class of 2026, has joined the college's Board of Trustees as its recent graduate trustee, serving a two-year term beginning July 1.

A 2026 graduate of Albion College, Altayeb studied biochemistry and Spanish with a concentration in cell and molecular biology. She was a member of the Prentiss M. Brown Honors Program and was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa honor society. She also took on leadership roles across campus, serving as president of Alpha Phi Omega, assistant managing editor of The Pleiad, and vice president of the EMS Club.

Altayeb's academic work bridged the sciences and the humanities. Her research spanned microbiology and public health, including a study of the microbiome of Drosophila melanogaster and work on bacterial gut infections. Her honors thesis examined feminicide in Puerto Rico and the United States through an ecological framework.

She is currently working in both a toxicology lab and a public health lab at Michigan State University, and plans to pursue a career as a physician-scientist with a focus on health equity and community-centered research that better serves historically underserved communities.

Grateful for the role Albion played in her own growth as a student, researcher, and leader, Altayeb hopes to help future students explore their interests, build confidence, and find meaningful paths of their own.

"It is a tremendous honor to serve as a recent graduate trustee for Albion College. As a first-generation college graduate, Albion gave me opportunities I never imagined possible-from meaningful research and lifelong mentorship to leadership experiences that positively shaped my future," said Altayeb. "I am grateful for the opportunity to give back to the college that invested so deeply in me and to help ensure future students have access to the same transformative experiences."
